Short-Term Training Programs

The Carthage Technical Center has short-term training programs that are offered by industry request. Below are the programs we are currently offering:

Fall Community Ed Class Offerings

Phlebotomy

When: March 5 – May 14

Time: 5:00pm - 8:00pm

Where: Carthage Technical Center - North

Cost: $760

Description: This course consists of classroom instruction and clinical field experience to prepare students for the National Healthcare (NHA) exam for Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification.

Total Course Hours: 60

Macrame Planter Class

When: February 26

Time: 5:30 - 7:30

Cost: $60

Description: Dive into the world of macramé! Learn the ropes of knotting and weaving to create a unique plant hanger. The instructor will walk the participant through the process, making it easy to enjoy the hand-on experience, all while making a modern piece of home décor! Join the class for a creative and fun time and leave with an individual plant hanger and planter.

MIG Welding Class - Build a Toolbox

When: March 4, 5, 6, & 11, 12, 13

Time: 5:30 - 7:30

Cost: $300

Description: Students will learn squaring and fabrication processes using MIG welding to build and take home a small rolling toolbox. Participants must have MIG Welding background knowledge or have completed a Beginning MIG Welding training course.

Forklift Training

Description: Become a certified forklift driver! Students will learn how to properly operate, understand controls, perform equipment inspections, recognize and avoid hazards, and how to prevent injuries and fatalities. Please bring your own pair of safety glasses to use while operating machinery. Must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. Limited seats available.

Hand-Sewn Pillow Design Class

When: March 4, 11, & 25

Time: 5:30 - 7:30

Cost: $60

Description: We will be making hand-sewn pillows to take home and enjoy, or create as a gift for someone!  We will have scraps of material and pillow forms to use.  You are also welcome to bring your own supplies, or possibly old shirts or aprons to create a pillow as memorabilia! Come ready to learn and enjoy sewing by hand!

OSHA 10

When: March 4, 5, & 6

Time: 5:00 - 8:30

Cost: $150

Description: This training course will prepare the entry level worker for the OHSA 10 exam. Students will learn required safety basics for the fields of construction and general industry. Upon completion of the course, students will earn OHSA 10 certification.

Kitchen Hack, tips, & Tricks

When: Mondays, November 6 - 27

Time: 5:30 - 7:30

Description: Learn how to make your life in the kitchen a little easier all while you practice cooking through the following: Meal prep and freezer Meals, Hacks for using common kitchen appliances & equipment in different ways, and master recipes for breads, cookies, and more.

Beginning Painting Class

When:  April 1, 8, 15 & 22

Time: 5:30 - 7:30

Cost: $60

Description: Through a wide range of experiences, students learn about painting tools, basic color-mixing, composition, form, and spatial relationships as well as technique through a series of paintings.

Processing Meat Chickens Class

When:  April 8th

Time: 5:30 - 7:30

Location: Carthage Technical Center – South

Cost: $75

Description: Learn how to successfully process your own meat chickens. This class will consist of a short lecture with handouts, followed by hands-on processing. Each participant will take home one processed chicken.

Course Guidelines

All courses will be held at Carthage Technical Center–North, 609 River Street, unless otherwise noted in the description. Most courses require ten enrollees per course. You will be notified if the minimum is not met and the class must be canceled. On the other hand, many of the classes have limited enrollment. Register early to avoid class cancellation or class filling. Payment must be received one week before class date to reserve a seat. Registration will be accepted in the order received and courses will be closed after the maximum number of students for each has been enrolled. If registrations have been received after a course has been closed or if an insufficient number register for a course, fees will be returned.

The student must make the request to drop a course prior to the beginning of the second class meeting to obtain a full refund. After the second class begins, a refund will not be issued.
