  • 9th grade - .5 Practical Art credit
    This course will be an introduction to career and technical education programs. Students will be exposed to computer science, health science, machining and manufacturing, agriculture, engineering, carpentry, criminal justice, and family and consumer sciences. This broad introduction class will help students find a program that perhaps they may choose as a career choice after high school.

  • 9th-12th grade - 1 Practical Art credit, Full year
    This course will be an introduction to career and technical education programs.   • 9th-12th grade - ½ Practical Art credit

    This hands-on course introduces students to the fundamentals of computer technology and digital systems used in today’s workplaces. Students will explore computer components, hardware, operating systems, file management, and software applications while learning how to set up, maintain, and troubleshoot personal computers. Topics include networking basics, cybersecurity and threat prevention, and an introduction to programming using C#. Through practical projects and problem-solving activities, students gain a strong foundation in computer systems and IT principles—preparing them for advanced technology courses, industry certifications, and future careers in information technology and related fields.

  • 10th, 11th or 12th Grades – 1 Practical Art credit

    The world runs on networks and you can run the network. First semester your introduction to the fundamentals of networking concepts and technologies will prepare you for exciting hands-on experiences that will add to your tech skills toolbox. Areas of study include: OSI model, TCP/IP model, MAC and IP addressing, cable installation, and basic LAN equipment setup. Second semester the course is designed to prepare students for the responsibilities of being a network administrator using the Microsoft Windows Server family of server operating systems. It provides hands-on experience incorporating Microsoft’s client/server-based products such as Active Directory (AD), Internet Information Services (ISS), and Distributed File System (DFS).

  • 10th, 11th, & 12th Grades – 1 Practical Art credit

    This course uses C# as the programming language for software development; however, the basic programming concepts presented can also be applied to a number of other languages. Instead of focusing on the syntax of the C# language, this course uses the C# language to present general programming concepts. This class introduces you to elementary algorithms and basic programming so that you can design and implement a variety of computer-based solutions.  Second semester will be a continuation of C# concepts and programmers will begin creating Windows Forms.

  • 10th, 11th, 12th Grades – 2 Practical Art credits (double block course)

    Computer Technology is designed to prepare the student for certification as a CompTIA A+ PC Repair Technician. CompTIA A+ certification nearly guarantees the student a well-paying position in the field of computer technology. Carthage Technical Center’s Computer Technology program is based on state of the art curriculum. Hands-on labs help to develop student competence. Students completing this course will gain knowledge on the various components used to build and upgrade personal computers, including CPUs, RAM, bus types and peripherals. Students will also install and configure various windows operating systems, which includes preventative maintenance and disaster recovery redundancies

  • 11th, 12th Grades – 1 Practical Art credit

    Prerequisites: Must have completed the course they want to be an Intern in 

    Use your technical computer skills to help your school and community. Gain valuable hands-on experience while troubleshooting and repairing faculty members' personal computing devices.  Set up labs for the IT courses and assist in maintaining the lab and classroom equipment. Intern applicants must be self-motivated and be able to work on projects with little supervision.

  • 11th & 12th Grades – Minimum of 2 blocks/ Interview required – 2 Practical Art credits

    Prerequisite: Computer Technology and Computer Networking

    Would you like to get paid for going to school? This course offers students an opportunity to gain valuable on the job experience working as a paid intern for the school district’s technology department. Students utilize skills obtained in Computer Technology/Networking to assist in the support of the district’s 2500 plus personal computers. Students will set up and maintain computer labs, perform customer service call center activities, and troubleshoot computer and network issues across the district. Students must be able to provide their own transportation.
